Helicopter crashes in Shizuoka

SHIZUOKA (Kyodo) - A Shizuoka Prefectural Police helicopter crashed in a residential area after grazing the roof of an apartment building May 3, killing all five people on board.
The chopper broke into pieces and went up in flames about five minutes after impact, at around 4:30 p.m., next to the apartment building in Shizuoka's Shimizu Ward. The tail section fell into a nearby river.
Nobody on the ground was injured.
The victims were identified as the chief of the Shizuoka police force's traffic control section, three others from the section, and the pilot.
"The building was shaking," said a 17-year-old boy who was in a first-floor room of the apartment building at the time.
The helicopter had been monitoring an expressway jammed with Golden Week traffic
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
