領海侵犯の韓国漁船逃走
日本の領海で密漁していたとされる韓国の漁船の扱いをめぐって1日、現場海域付近で日本の巡視艇と韓国の警備艇が停船し、こう着状態が続いた。
South Korea trawler in standoff
Three Japanese and four South Korean patrol boats remained locked in a standoff June 1 over a fishing boat that was allegedly engaged in poaching in Japanese waters the previous night.
The 77-ton Shinpung-ho was suspected of poaching in Japan's exclusive economic zone around midnight May 31, prompting the Japan Coast Guard to stop the vessel and board it for inspection.
But then the boat fled into South Korean waters with two Japanese guardsmen still on board until it was stopped by a South Korea Coast Guard ship.
After seeking help from its South Korean counterpart, the Japan Coast Guard brought the pair back safely early June 1. However, the two sides can't agree on which side should take charge of the probe into the incident.
The crew of the Shinpung-ho was quoted as denying any wrongdoing. (Kyodo)
