北朝鮮へ拉致問題進展求める
日本と北朝鮮は18日、二国間協議を再開することで合意した。
Japan seeks abduction truth from Pyongyang
Tokyo and Pyongyang have agreed Sept. 18 to resume bilateral talks - stalled since last November - to resolve various issues, including the abductions of Japanese in the 1970s and 1980s.
The date, venue and level of the bilateral dialogue will be decided through diplomatic channels, but Tokyo seeks to resume talks as soon as possible.
Bilateral talks have been stalled since Japan announced in December that remains the North claimed were of abductee Megumi Yokota were not hers.
Yokota was abducted to North Korea in 1977 at age 13. Pyongyang has claimed she killed herself in 1994, but Japan is unconvinced.
North Korea has accused Japan of "cooking up a false-remains incident" to isolate Pyongyang from the global community. It has also said that several people Japan claims were abducted have either died or were never abducted to the North. (The Japan Times)
