Cellphone number portability starts

The number portability system for cellphone users started Oct. 24, with competition intensifying between top carrier NTT DoCoMo Inc., KDDI Inc., and Softbank Mobile Corp. to win customers. Under the new system, cellphone users can switch from one operator to another without changing their phone number, although they will still have to change their mobile e-mail address. (Kyodo)
