Kidney transplant scandal grows

A doctor, who has been accused of transplanting unhealthy kidneys in 11 cases at a hospital until 2004, said Nov. 7 he had conducted about 10 to 15 more similar transplants at another hospital between 1990 and 2004. Makoto Mannami, 66, who worked at the Uwajima Tokushukai Hospital in Ehime Prefecture, said he had conducted the 10 to 15 other transplants while he worked for the Uwajima Municipal Hospital, which is run by the Uwajima city government. Mannami said he had obtained consent from the patients involved and their relatives. (Kyodo)
