Less press freedom now in U.S., Japan

Restrictions on civil liberties due to the "war on terrorism" have undermined media freedom in the United States, journalists' rights group Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said Oct. 24. Finland, Iceland, Ireland and the Netherlands came top, while North Korea was last. The United States fell nine places to 53rd in the survey of 168 countries. It came 17th in 2002. Japan fell 14 places to 51st. (Reuters)
