Kiran Desai wins Man Booker Prize

Indian writer Kiran Desai, the daughter of author Anita Desai, won Britain's prestigious Man Booker Prize on Oct. 10 for her second book "The Inheritance of Loss." The book, which took Desai eight years to write, tells parallel stories set in post-colonial India and the United States. Finalists for the prize included Sarah Waters, Hisham Matar, Kate Grenville, M.J. Hyland and Edward St. Aubyn. (AP)
