Hunger on the rise around the world

A U.N. food expert said Nov. 2 that around 852 million people around the world suffered malnutrition last year, saying that the trade practices of wealthy nations and desert encroachment aggravated the problem.This was an increase of 11 million from the year earlier. Much of the increase was in Africa, where the Sahara Desert is spreading and excess food from rich nations is dumped in local markets, undercutting local producers. (AP)
