TV station apologizes for fake natto diet

Kansai Telecasting Corp. on Jan. 23 has pulled the plug on "Hakkutsu! Aruaru Daijiten II," a popular weekly TV program that admitted it carried false data on the benefits of natto fermented soybeans. The show had claimed that you could lose weight from eating natto for breakfast and dinner for two weeks every day, causing a natto-buying frenzy. The company has apologized and punished those responsible with pay cuts and demotions. (Kyodo)
