Test scores down in math and science

Third-year high school students did badly in the mathematics and science parts of their academic achievement test in 2005, while improving in other subjects, such as world history. This is the first large-scale test of current official curriculum guidelines, which place emphasis on self-initiative over studying. (Kyodo)
