Hakuho promoted to yokozuna

Mongolian Hakuho, 22, was promoted to yokozuna, or grand champion, May 30, becoming the fourth non-Japanese to reach sumo's highest rank.

Hakuho, whose real name is Munkhbat Davaajargal, gained promotion after winning back-to-back Emperor's Cups and the third cup of his career May 26 at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament. Hakuho is the 69th yokozuna in sumo history. (AP)
