Asthma sufferers settle pollution case

A group of asthma sufferers who said Tokyo air pollution made them sick accepted a ¥1.2 billion out-of-court settlement July 2. The suit was filed in 1996 against the national government, toll-road operator Metropolitan Expressway Public Corp. and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, as well as seven auto manufacturers, including Toyota Motor Corp. and Nissan Motor Co.
