1,679 companies ordered to pay overtime

|
The number of companies that paid ¥1 million or more in overtime in arrears following an order from labor standards inspection offices was a record-high 1,679 in fiscal 2006, up 10 percent from 2005, sources said Oct. 5. The companies paid a total of ¥22.7 billion.
The number of companies rose probably because more employees are going to local labor offices amid growing awareness that unpaid overtime work is illegal. (Kyodo)
