Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, a devout Muslim with a background in political Islam, won the Turkish presidency Aug. 28. Particularly controversial is that Gul's wife wears an Islamic-style head scarf, which, in secular Turkey, is banned in government offices and schools. (AP)
