Turkish lawmakers OK Iraq attack
|
|
The Turkish parliament on Oct. 17 approved a measure to send troops into northern Iraq to root out Kurdish rebels who have been attacking Turkey. But Turkish leaders, under pressure from Washington and Baghdad, have said they would not immediately give the order to send troops into the region, which has largely escaped the chaos of the Iraq war. Turkey already has a small number of troops there to monitor the rebel Kurdistan Workers' Party with the permission of Iraqi Kurd authorities. (AP)
