Chirac surprises by supporting Sarkozy
French President Jacques Chirac said March 21 that he supports Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy's bid for president in upcoming elections despite their long rivalry. Relations have been tense between the two since Sarkozy supported Chirac's rival Edouard Balladur in presidential elections in 1995. (AP)
