Mammoth body brought to Japan

The frozen body of a 37,000-year-old mammoth was brought to Japan for tests Dec. 29.

The 1.2-meter body will hopefully help scientists learn more about the organs and the internal structure of mammoths.

The body was discovered by a reindeer herder in northern Siberia. The trunk and the eyes are intact, although its tail and ear had been bitten off. It is the best-preserved frozen mammoth ever discovered.

The mammoth went on display to the public in Tokyo on Jan. 2. (Kyodo)
