Police arrested a boy July 16 for hijacking a bus on the Tomei Expressway in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture.
Ten passengers and the driver were on the Nagoya-Tokyo double-decker bus. No one was injured, although the boy threatened the driver with a knife, according to police.
Police persuaded him to surrender at the Miai rest area where they arrested him.
The boy, who was carrying two knives, is 14 and a second-year junior high school student from Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
"I wanted to cause trouble to my parents because I was scolded," the boy said. "I wanted to cause a stir."
He left home July 15, prompting his family to call the police. (Kyodo News)
