Mikasa Foods in inedible rice scandal
Mikasa Foods, a maker of rice products in Osaka, sold non-edible rice containing a higher-than-allowed level of pesticide residue and toxic material for edible use, the government said Sept. 5. The company also sold products processed from the rice, including rice crackers.
Mikasa Foods President Mitsuo Fuyuki admitted that he was aware that his company used the rice, which was imported from China, Vietnam and other countries, for edible products.
Two other companies, Asai and Ota Sangyo, are also suspected of doing the same. (Kyodo News)
