Giant panda Ling Ling dies at Ueno Zoo

Ling Ling, the giant panda at Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, died of heart failure April 30. He was 22 years and seven months old, which is about 70 in human years. Ling Ling was born in Beijing Zoo and was the only panda that belonged to Japan. Ling Ling was given to Japan in 1992 in exchange for a panda born in Japan to celebrate 20 years of China-Japan ties. He was the fifth-oldest known panda in the world. (Kyodo News)
