Baseball: Oh resigns as Hawks manager

Sadaharu Oh announced his resignation as manager of the Softbank Hawks on Sept. 23 because of poor health. Oh, 68, who had his stomach removed for cancer after guiding Japan to the World Baseball Classic title in 2006, led the Hawks for 14 years. The baseball icon retired as a player in 1980 after 22 years with the Yomiuri Giants and hitting a record 868 home runs. (Kyodo News)
