Elections postponed after Bhutto's death
Elections in Pakistan will be postponed until Feb. 18 because of the unrest that followed the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, authorities said Jan. 2.
Opposition leaders want the elections to be held Jan. 8 as originally planned. They say the ruling party is afraid that it will lose. The delay could lead to more violence.
Bhutto, who was a popular moderate Muslim leader, was assassinated in a gun-and- bomb attack Dec. 27. Around 60 people have died in the violence that followed. Many have accused elements in the ruling party of organizing her death. (AP)
