Russia elects new president

Dmitry Medvedev was elected to succeed Russian President Vladimir Putin in elections March 2. He won around 70 percent of the votes. Medvedev, 42, has worked with Putin since the 1990s. Critics see him as nothing more than Putin's puppet. Putin will step down after eight years as president in May. (AP)
