Australia stops plan to kill kangaroos

Plans to kill 400 kangaroos on an abandoned military site near Canberra have been put on hold because of public opposition March 31.
A recent government report had said that the eastern gray kangaroos were destroying the native grasslands and threatening other species.
But animal rights activists — including Paul McCartney — have protested.
There are more than 60 species of kangaroos in Australia. Some of them are thriving and live in huge groups, called mobs. (AP)

オーストラリアの首都キャンベラで、増えすぎた野生のカンガルー400頭を殺処分する案が持ち上がったが、動物愛護団体の反対にあい、政府はこの案を撤回することを発表した。
