Plane accident kills 153 in Spain

A plane heading to the Canary Islands crashed during takeoff at the Barajas International Airport in Madrid on Aug. 20, killing 153 people.
The plane was carrying 172 crew members and passengers, including two babies and 20 children. Only 19 people survived the mid-afternoon crash, sources said, and some were in critical condition.
The deadliest disaster in history occurred in Spain in 1977. Two fully loaded Boeing 747s collided on a runway in the Canary Islands and a total of 583 people died. (AP)
