Bomb targets luxury hotel in Pakistan
|
|
A suicide bomber detonated a truck filled with explosives outside the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad on Sept. 20. At least 53 people were killed and 270 were wounded.
The targeting of the U.S. hotel chain was one of the largest terrorist attacks ever in Pakistan. Among the dead were two Americans and the Czech ambassador.
Sources said Pakistan's top leaders were due to have dinner at the hotel on the night it was bombed but cheated death after switching venue at the last minute.
The attack came at a time of growing anger in Pakistan over cross-border strikes on militant bases by U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Pakistan continues to be a key ally of the United States. (AP)
