A man in New York slipped on pigeon droppings on some stairs in a subway station in 1998 and injured himself. He had noticed the droppings earlier, and he sued the city's transit authority for not cleaning it up. Now he has been awarded $7.67 million (¥876 million) in damages. This has been reduced to $6.13 million (¥700 million) because the court said it is partly the man's fault that he failed to avoid the droppings.
