石川遼が史上最年少賞金王とMVP
日本ゴルフツアー機構は12月7日、東京都内で2009年度の表彰式を行ない、史上最年少で賞金王を獲得した石川遼選手がMVPに選ばれた。
Ishikawa wins MVP, JGTO money
Teenager Ryo Ishikawa, who made Japanese golf history by becoming the youngest-ever money title winner Dec. 6, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) by the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO) on Dec. 7. The 18-year-old Ishikawa, who won four titles in 2009 and raked in earnings of 183 million yen, received awards in a record nine different categories.
"It's an honor to receive so many awards. It's been a dynamic year," said Ishikawa.
With his 2009 earnings, Ishikawa replaced Masashi "Jumbo" Ozaki as the youngest money winner on the JGTO tour. Ozaki won the money title at the age of 26 in 1973.
Yuta Ikeda, who finished second in the money rankings, was selected as Rookie of the Year. Ikeda totaled more points under the system used by the JGTO in selecting the MVP, but Ishikawa was given the award after widening his appeal in overseas events. (Kyodo News)
