Women accounted for a record-high 20.1 percent of those who passed the Level-1 civil service examination for fiscal 2009, the first time the ratio has topped 20 percent since the current test was adopted in 1960, the National Personnel Authority said June 23. The Level-1 exam is considered a prerequisite for getting into career positions that can eventually lead to senior posts in the central government bureaucracy. (Kyodo News)
