GM ends NUMMI deal with Toyota
|
|
Bankrupt auto giant General Motors Corp. said in the United States on June 29 that it will pull out of the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI) joint venture with Toyota Motor Corp. and stop producing the Pontiac Vibe in August. Toyota had earlier said it hoped to continue the 50-50 venture, which produced 10,000 Corollas, 2,000 Tacoma trucks and 6,000 Vibes in May. Experts said Toyota is likely to take over the iconic joint venture set up in California in 1984 amid Japan-U.S. trade friction. (The Japan Times)
