Govt pledges $5 bill. aid to Afghans
Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama's Cabinet endorsed a plan Nov. 10 to extend $5 billion (¥450 billion), in civilian aid to Afghanistan over five years from 2009 to help reconstruct the war-torn country. "I know Japan has done quite good work in supporting Afghanistan, but terrorism has not been eliminated," Hatoyama told reporters.(Kyodo News)
