Painter Ikuo Hirayama dead at 79

Ikuo Hirayama, a painter in the Japanese style known for his Silk Road paintings, Buddhist themes and his efforts to preserve and restore world cultural heritage, died of a stroke Dec. 2 at a Tokyo hospital, those close to him said. He was 79. Hirayama was a native of Hiroshima Prefecture and a survivor of the August 1945 atomic bombing of the city. He was named UNESCO goodwill ambassador in 1988. (Kyodo News)
日本画家の平山郁夫さんが死去
日本画家で文化勲章受章者の平山郁夫さんが12月2日、脳梗塞のため亡くなった。79歳だった。
