タリバン、パキスタンへも勢力伸ばす
タリバンの過激派はパキスタン北西部へも勢力を伸ばしている。
Taliban militants extend their grip in Pakistan
Taliban militants have extended their grip in northwestern Pakistan, pushing out from a valley where the government has agreed to impose Islamic law and patrolling villages as close as 100 km from the capital.
Police and officials appear to have fled as armed militants broadcast radio sermons and spread fear in Buner district, just 100 km from Islamabad, officials said April 22.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari signed off on the peace pact in mid-April in hopes of calming Swat Valley, where some two years of clashes between the Taliban and security forces have killed hundreds and displaced up to a third of the area's 1.5 million residents. Critics warn that the valley could become a base for allies of al-Qaida — and that it may be just the first domino in nuclear-armed Pakistan falling to the Taliban. (AP)
