U.N. racism conference walked out on
|
|
Speaking April 20 at the U.N. racism conference in Geneva, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad launched into harsh criticism of Israel, calling it the "most cruel and racist regime.'' At the first mention of Israel, about 40 Western diplomats silently marched down the aisles and walked out of the hall in protest. Australia, Canada, Germany, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Poland and the United States boycotted the conference entirely, out of fear that Israel would be "singled out" for criticism.
