First nisei U.S. federal judge dies at 78

U.S. District Judge Robert M. Takasugi, an ex-internment camp prisoner during World War II and the first Japanese-American appointed to the federal bench, died Aug. 4 at the age of 78. Takasugi was known for his overrulling of the Patriot Act in 2002 with the dismissal of indictments of Iranian and Iranian-American defendants alleged to be members of a terrorist cell attempting to overthrow the Iranian government.
