Top traders may delay recruitment

An industry group of major trading houses, including Mitsubishi Corp. & Mitsui and Co., is considering pushing back the start of the recruitment process for upcoming college graduates by four months so they can concentrate more on their studies.
If the system is applied by Japan Foreign Trade Council Inc., students who are expected to graduate in March 2013 will undergo the recruitment process around August 2012 instead of April.
Currently, undergraduates begin their job hunts in the fall of their third year, more than a year before graduation, affecting their academic life.
The council said Oct. 6 it plans to call on other business organizations, including the Japan Business Federation, to likewise consider reviewing the current recruitment process. (Kyodo News)
