The number of high school students who studied abroad for more than three months in the 2008 academic year fell 19 percent from the previous survey in 2006 to 3,190, according to an education ministry study released Jan. 28. The total number had dropped 29 percent from its peak in 1992, the Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Ministry said, attributing the fall to the tough economic situation. (Kyodo News)
