British 7-year-old chips in big for Haiti
|
|
A British schoolboy has raised more than pounds £160,000 (¥23 million) for Haiti's relief effort by cycling around his local park. Seven-year-old Charlie Simpson was so upset by the images of Haiti's deadly earthquake that he asked his mother if she could help him set up a sponsored bicycle ride around a west London park. He raised nearly pounds £53,000 (¥7.7 million) for UNICEF's Haiti appeal with an 8-km bike ride, but his internet page was later flooded with more donations. His story was printed in the newspaper and donations continue to roll in. (AP)
