Okinawa wet season ends early

This year's rainy season in Okinawa Prefecture ended June 9, marking the earliest end on record since the local observatory started taking data in 1951, it said. The season ended a day earlier than the previous records marked in 1971, 1980 and 1996, according to the Okinawa Meteorological Observatory. The rainy spell, which lasted for 40 days from April 30, appears to have finished 14 days earlier than average and 10 days earlier than last year, the observatory said. (Kyodo News)
