House to be preserved after tsunami
|
|
A house more than 300 years old on the Miyagi Prefecture coast that barely withstood the March earthquake and tsunami will be relocated all the way to Kagawa Prefecture, where it will be restored in a museum. Silk producer Shigeyuki Endo, the 61-year-old owner of the thatched house in Minamisanriku, had lived in the home since the day he was born. Endo decided not to demolish the house, now leaning heavily to one side, because it "withstood the tsunami despite its old age." (Kyodo News)
