GSDF to be dispatched to South Sudan
|
|
The government announced Nov. 1 that several hundred Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF) engineers will be dispatched to South Sudan as part of a United Nations peacekeeping operation. The dispatch decision followed a rebel attack in the oil-rich Unity state Oct. 29 that left about 80 dead, including 60 rebels. The government said it "comprehensively" looked at many factors in making its decision, including the unstable situation in South Sudan, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Tsuyoshi Saito said at a news conference.
