Cash for TOEFL-sharp Osaka schools

Osaka Gov. Toru Hashimoto plans to offer a total of 500 million yen to high schools whose students score highest on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to boost competition and raise the level of language proficiency. The plan, meant to reward the high schools in the prefecture with the best English education programs, was recently conveyed to the prefectural board of education and will go into effect next year if approved. 大阪府の橋下徹知事は1月18日、英語検定試験「TOEFL」を府内の高校で実施し、好成績のトップ50校に計5億円の予算を配分するという意向を明らかにした。
