Nuclear giant Areva to post large loss

France's state-controlled nuclear engineering giant Areva said Dec. 12 it will post a massive full-year loss in 2011 because it had to set aside more than 2 billion euros (200 billion yen) to deal with the impacts of a troubled mining project in Namibia and Japan's Fukushima nuclear disaster in March. Areva said it expects to make an operating loss of between 1.4 billion euros (140 billion yen) and 1.6 billion euros (160 billion yen) this year, compared to a profit of 883 million euros (90 billion yen) in 2010.
