Famed Genji gets first Italian translation
|
|
An Italian academic has translated an entire version of Genji Monogatari (The Tale of Genji), one of Japan's foremost literary classics, into Italian for the first time. Maria Teresa Orsi, a former professor at the University of Rome and an authority on Japanese literature, told a lecture held June 11 in Rome to mark the Italian version's publication that she repeatedly thought about giving up because the translation was so difficult. Orsi said the project took about 12 years to complete. (Kyodo News)
