Workers start razing worn-out Arase Dam
|
|
Workers began dismantling an aging hydroelectric dam in Kumamoto Prefecture on Sept. 1, the first project of its kind undertaken in Japan. The Arase Dam, built in 1955 in the city of Yatsushiro, will be disassembled over the next six years to restore a local river. The project is expected to serve as a model for decommissioning other infrastructure facilities at the end of their life spans. (Kyodo News)
