Eel to be designated 'vulnerable'
|

The Environment Ministry will put the Japanese eel on its Red List of threatened species, government sources said Sept. 13. The move entails no legal restrictions on catches or trade in the species. The Japanese eel will be designated as "vulnerable" -- the lowest of three categories of endangered species worked out by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. (Kyodo News)
