China's holiday nightmare for camels

China returned to work Oct. 8 after an eight-day holiday of heavy traffic jams and congestion at tourist attractions. In Gansu Province, a desert tourist destination, the influx led to the deaths of at least two camels from overwork, local media reported. About 8,000 visitors toured the dunes on camelback each day during the holiday and the 1,000 camels available had to work nonstop all day, the reports said. (Kyodo News)
