トヨタ、米集団訴訟で和解
トヨタ自動車は12月26日、米国での大規模リコールに関する集団訴訟で和解に合意し、11億ドルを支払うと発表した。
Toyota agrees to settle U.S. class action suit
Toyota Motor Corp. said Dec. 26 it has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit in the United States related to its past vehicle recalls for unintended acceleration problems, and will take a $1.1 billion (yen94 billion) charge to cover the settlement cost.
Once the agreement is approved by the U.S. District Court in California, Toyota's U.S. unit will provide a new customer support program or cash payment to present and past owners of cars subject to recalls due to sticky gas pedals and floor mats, which tended to trap gas pedals, the Japanese automaker said.
The acceleration problems in Toyota vehicles resulted in a series of recalls since 2009 and an investigation by the U.S. government at the request of Congress. The probe did not find any glitches in electronic throttle control systems of recalled models. (Kyodo News)
