Guidelines outlined amid toxic smog

|
The Environment Ministry outlined provisional guidelines Feb. 18 for dealing with toxic smog that is spreading to Japan from China, including advice to stay indoors and refrain from ventilating rooms when high concentrations of the smog are detected. Given increasing concern over so-called PM2.5, an air pollutant found in toxic smog that covered 25 percent of China in January, the ministry also asked prefectural and major city authorities in a meeting to increase the number of monitoring posts for PM2.5 in their regions.
