Wild boars are taking a toll on agriculture in Fukushima Prefecture as farmers struggle to bounce back from the planting bans imposed after the meltdowns at the Fukushima No. 1 power plant in March 2011.
The boars are multiplying and entering areas they previously avoided, as underbrush once routinely cleared in the nearby mountains grows back.
A local official said hunters are also reluctant to bag wild ani-mals for fear the meat may be irradiated. (Kyodo)
